Tuesday’s Domestic Violence Walk drew a large crowd of survivors and supporters to walk together to raise awareness and inspire hope. (Please click here for a folder of photos from the event.)
NCS staff member (and mom) Ondrea Filkins did a great job organizing the event again this year. She was joined by Yesenia Salcedo and Karen Morrell of Domestic Violence Services of Fulton and Montgomery Counties, a division of Catholic Charities of Fulton and Montgomery Counties. Ms. Salcedo spoke eloquently to the assembled crowd about the insidiousness of domestic violence and the local resources available to rally against it.
NCS students Cadence Crandall and Eastyn Ward were part of the pre-walk presentation as well. Cadence joined her mom to help inform the crowd of the many ways individuals can help a victim of domestic violence. Eastyn was recognized for leading a fund drive among all six NCS soccer teams that raised $273.00!
In all, the soccer team fund drive and the donations collected at the Domestic Violence Walk added up to a $454.00 donation to the Fulton County Domestic Violence Shelter. If you missed your chance to donate and are interested in doing so, check donations can be made directly to Catholic Charities of Fulton and Montgomery Counties with “Domestic Violence Program” in the memo.
