Summary (Compliments of CapitalRegionSoccer.com):

The Northville Falcons have enjoyed a great run this season, and sectionals were just an extension of their play from the first 16 games.  Tonight, they won an outright Section 2 championship, 7-0, over an improving and determined Middleburgh squad.  Last season, the Falcons were co-champions with Fort Ann, but then went on a run all the way to the NYS Title Game.  This year, their sectional championship run was made without surrendering a single goal – keeper Joey Capobianco, and defenders Landon Frasier, Easton Morgan, Keegan Canfield, Logan Hammons, and Magnus Halloran don’t get the headlines, but they should.  They have been solid for the entire sectional series.

Introductions were just completed, and things were ready to roll when thunder and lightning delayed the start of the match by 45 minutes – a 30-minute delay, followed by another ten minutes to allow the teams to warm up again.  I think the delay hurt both sides as the play was not as crisp, either from the Falcons or the Knights, as expected.  Well, I blame the weather for that, as once things got rolling, the two Western Athletic Conference teams kicked it into another gear.  For the Knights, Sal Fileccia, JJ Narzymski, and keeper Robbie Narzymski were keys to keeping the game scoreless until, halfway through the opening period, McQuade Klippel slid a square ball to Braydn Bovee, and Bovee buried it in the nets for a 1-0 Falcon lead.

There were two distinct turning points in the first half that affected the game. The first happened a little past the halfway mark through the first half with the Falcons in front, 1-0.  A foul by the Falcons just outside the box provided a golden opportunity for Middleburgh.  JJ Narzymski (who, by the way, had a sensational semi-final match) stepped up to take the free kick.  It was an awesome attempt as he chipped the wall, and I expected to see the official call a goal, but somehow (despite my vantage point), the ball continued and just went over, not under the crossbar, for a goal kick.  That would have tied the match at that point.

The second turning point was when Sal Pagano entered the match and provided an immediate spark to the Falcons’ play.  Pagano hustled to every ball, made some solid runs, and his pass work was on target. Yes, it is true he should have had a goal or two with his play, but he certainly was a spark to his team.

With eight minutes to play in the half, Northville found the gear that they were searching for as the passes in the box were well executed and very unselfish, and left the Knights’ defenders with a tough assignment as McQuade Klippel found the net and assisted Bovee to make it a 3-0 advantage at the 40-minute mark.

The second half saw Northville put their offense into overdrive as they scored 6 more in the second half, but 2 were called back due to offside calls. Bovee completed his hat trick.  Klippel found the net twice to complete his hat trick, and Logan Hammons hit an upper-90 shot, curling past the keeper.  Second-half assists went to Klippel, Hammons, and Bovee.  The ball movement in the second 40 was exceptional as both Klippel and Bovee sent some beautiful unselfish services in the box.  Center midfielder Patrick Halloran worked tirelessly to set up the Falcon attacks.

The game started with a storm, then the weather turned nice, but the final ten minutes saw the skies open up again, and with the wind, conditions were difficult as the players fought the wind and the rain, soaking them.  The final whistle sounded, and Northville celebrated – it was a team victory, and it was most fitting that they all celebrated- all great kids from a small town in the Adirondacks that has a tremendous spirit and togetherness.

For Middleburgh, it was the final soccer game for Seniors Thomas Donnelly, Ian Vilegi, Connor Mattice, Jakob Lloyd, JJ Narzymski, Trey Ruise, Guillermo Martinez, and Liam Delaney and Coach Johns wanted to thank all of them for their time, effort, and commitment to the soccer program at Middleburgh- a program which had gone undefeated over their final five games and tonight, they worked for 80 minutes.  Congrats to all of them for what they have done for soccer at their school.  Also, congratulations to the WAC for their play during the season that prepared these two WAC schools to advance to this championship game.

For Northville, now 17-2-0 this season, a second straight sectional championship.  They will surely have a parade in the village, celebrate, have a pizza party, and a huge fireworks display, and enjoy, but tomorrow it is back to work as they begin to prepare for regional play and a trip to Plattsburgh to face Chazy in a regional final Saturday at high noon.

Northville’s League Record: 11-2-0     Non-League Record: 6-0-0       Overall Record: 17-2-0

Our next game will be the Regional Final vs Chazy @ Plattsburgh on Saturday, November 8, at noon.
